The awardees were selected by LinkedIn Philippines based on data analysis that examined each company’s utilization and engagement data to determine their ability to leverage LinkedIn Talent Solutions and make a significant impact within the organization. </p><p>Maria Virginia Eala, BPI Chief Human Resources Officer, said the award is a testament of the Bank’s consistent efforts to create more relevant programs for the employees’ career growth and development.</p><p>“We really make sure that we take care of our employees and set them up for success because they are the heart of BPI. The 171-year history of the Bank would not have been possible if not for them. It is our mission to cultivate in them our core values of excellence, integrity, and customer obsession to develop happier, engaged, motivated and customer-focused professionals. We are grateful to LinkedIn Philippines for recognizing our efforts and inspiring us to do more,” Eala said. </p><p>The award was given by LinkedIn Philippines, the largest business and employment-focused social media platform, in the recently held LinkedIn Talent Awards at Shangri-La BGC in Taguig City. The program recognizes companies in the Philippines leading the future of work by demonstrating remarkable adaptability, innovation, and creativity.</p><p>“BPI believes in creating a nurturing and inclusive environment where employees feel proud of being ambassadors of the brand. A happy employee delivers excellent service to customers,” Eala added.</p><p>Aside from the award, BPI was also selected as a finalist for the Diversity Champion Award for initiating and inspiring meaningful conversations around diversity, inclusion, belonging and equity. </p><p>BPI—the oldest bank in the country and Southeast Asia—was recognized in 2020 as the Best Bank in the Philippines by Euromoney, the prestigious global financial publication. His fishing boat was completely destroyed after Typhoon Odette rammed into his home, leaving him unable to provide for his family while facing an uncertain future. He had to settle with borrowing other people's boats or joining them in fishing trips just to get by.</p><p>“Dako kaayo akong kalipay, labi na usa ko sa beneficiary sa maong tabang nga diin makarecover mi ug balik sa among panginabuhi-an nga diin dili nami mosakay sa lahi na sakayan. Usa pod, maka bubo nami balik sa panudlanan sa kapunongan tali sa maong tabang. (…) Kami, kalipay namong dako nga bisan dako ang kadaot diri sa among kapungongan, nagpasalamat mi nga ang Ginoo nag tan-aw gyod namo ug unsa ang among kinahanglan ug adunay gyoy grasya nga nadawat,” Jimmy expressed. (“I am filled with great happiness because I am one of the beneficiaries who are granted the opportunity to recover our livelihood. Through this help, we won’t have to join in other people’s fishing trips, and we can finally revive our association’s funds. We are greatly happy that despite the immense damage, God has been looking out for us and has provided us these blessings.”)    </p><p>As the social development arm of the Bank of the Philippine Islands, BPIF, through the Balik Bugsay project, hopes to pursue their advocacy of Bayanihan, partnering with like-minded institutions like RAFI, to equip local associations and individuals to be economically disaster resilient by providing them with tools to recover and restore their livelihood. </p><p> “Kami sa BPI Foundation, kauban ang RAFI, nalipay sa oportunidad nga makahatag ninyo ug galamiton alang sa panginabuhi nga makatabang sa inyong pagpadayon pagkahuman sa bagyo.  Tinguha sa BPI Foundation nga molambo ang matag pamilya lakip na kamong mananagat nga dako ug kontribusyon sa atuang komunidad ug ekonomiya,” said Juvylyn Reniva, Associate Director of BPI Foundation.  (“We in BPI Foundation, together with RAFI, are happy with this opportunity to give you tools for livelihood that will help move forward after the typhoon.  It is our aspiration for every family to progress, including the fisherfolk who greatly contribute to our community and economy.”)</p><p>Similarly, with its ongoing initiatives for rehabilitation and recovery, RAFI HDPR continues to support different sectors in the community that still have not recovered from the aftereffects of Typhoon Odette.</p><p>“Kami sa RAFI, aduna kami panultihon nga, Padayon sa Pagbugsay. Cammayo. “It truly takes a village to drive further our shared agenda of creating positive change and lasting impact to society.</div><div>A total of 202 educators, intervenors, and social entrepreneurs applied for this year’s business challenge. After thorough deliberation and intensive boot camps, the finalists were shortlisted and tasked to prepare a pitch of their business plan. </div><div><br /></div><div>Top 10 Social Entrepreneurs</div><div><br /></div><div>Recognized for presenting the most promising projects this year, Breastfeeding Care Center of the North (Baguio City), Coron Natural Farms (Palawan), PHILIA (Sultan Kudarat), Shiftech Marine (Misamis Oriental), and Zarahlan Bokashi Composting (Quezon City) were hailed as the top five awardees of the BPI Sinag Evolution Business Challenge for SEs, while Green Beauty and Wellness Center (Sorsogon), Ride Mommy Delivery Services (Cagayan), Sanagi Agri Tourism Farm (Benguet), Studentship Educational Innovations Philippines, OPC (Sultan Kudarat), and Tableya Filipino (Davao City) took the sixth to tenth spots.</div><div><br /></div><div>To help take their businesses to the next level, each of the top five winners will receive cash grants worth P300,000, while the rest of the awardees will get P100,000 each. The top 10 SEs will also undergo a six-month mentorship program from the pioneering social enterprise incubator Bayan Academy for Social Entrepreneurship and Human Resource Development.</div><div><br /></div><div>Other social enterprises also received special awards. Tableya Filipino (Davao City) won the BPI Direct BanKo NegosyoKo Award with a P30,000 cash grant while 1740 Coffee Genesis (National Capital Region) bagged the Entrego Bizkarte Award with a P30,000 cash grant. Capili Trading Inc. (Misamis Oriental) and Ride Mommy Delivery Services (Cagayan) took home the Villgro Philippines Business Growth Support Award with three-month exclusive mentorship sessions. As of 2021, 4.9 million of its 8.46 million client base were enrolled in digital channels. Of the number, 3.24 million were active, up 20% from the previous year. BPI also has a growing list of over 80 API partners covering nearly 800 products and services, with over 100 million transactions in 2021, a 75% growth from the previous year.</p><p>“In 2021, we accelerated our goal to transform our Bank for the future while executing and growing through the pandemic,” Limcaoco said.</p><p><br /></p><p><b><u>Customer Obsession</u></b></p><p>BPI also seeks to be heroes for its customers with a shift in mindset. In 2021, BPI created a new position for a Chief Customer and Marketing Officer, whose job is to put customer needs first. The bank also launched a concise version of its Core Values wherein everyone in the bank must be N.I.C.E, which touches on the need to be Nurturing, acting with Integrity, being Customer obsessed, and acting with Excellence. </p><p>BPI likewise strengthened its coverage of various client segments, by forming a consolidated consumer banking unit that focuses on providing relevant financial solutions to the retail market.  Corporate banking continues to cater to large corporations, Business banking covers the small, and medium enterprises (SMEs), while Banko, it’s microfinance unit looks after the self-employed micro entrepreneurs (SEMEs).</p><p>Limcaoco acknowledged the role of BPI’s 19,000-strong workforce in delivering excellent financial solutions and service to clients. “They have stood by our customers throughout these challenging times, and they are very much the driving force behind the Bank we have become,” he said.</p><p><br /></p><p><b><u>Sustainability</u></b></p><p>BPI has also affirmed its longstanding commitment to sustainability. Last year, it officially rolled out its Sustainability Agenda. As of end-2021, about 48% of the bank’s portfolio was tied to initiatives that contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.</p><p>BPI is also the first and only Philippine bank to give a time-bound commitment to halve coal generation financing in its portfolio by 2026 and bring it down to zero by 2032. It also supports the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD). BPI had also announced that it would no longer finance green-field coal power projects going forward.  In addition, BPI pioneered the first energy transition financing loan that would enable an existing coal plant to close 15 years ahead of its economic life.</p><p>These initiatives have drawn recognition for BPI in terms of economic, social, and governance (ESG) standards. Nakatulong ito na mas maintindihan namin ang sessions dahil natututukan kami ng aming mentor (It was of great help that they divided us into small groups. and regulatory approvals, it will merge with BPI Family Savings Bank (BFSB), it's wholly

The merger, which BPI hopes to complete this year, will prime the Bank to seize emerging opportunities and ultimately enhance the overall banking experience of customers. The integration of both entities will provide considerable advantages to the customers and employees of BPI and BFSB, and present potential synergies that will benefit shareholders. The reduction in the gap in regulatory reserve requirements between commercial banks and thrift banks was also a factor in the timing of the transaction.</div><div><br />

BFSB is the country’s largest thrift bank with P287 billion in assets, P235 billion in deposits, and P227 billion in loans. BFSB has focused on providing housing and auto loans to Filipino families and is a market leader in these loan segments. BFSB has approximately 3,000 employees.</div><div><br />

“This merger has the best interests of our customers and employees in mind,” said BPI President and CEO Cezar P. Consing, who is also the Chairman of BFSB. “As One BPI, our 8.5 million customers will be able to enjoy the full suite of the BPI group’s products, via all our digital and physical channels. Similarly, as One BPI, our employees will have the ability to work across a larger, more varied bank, while having continuity of tenure and job level.”</div><div><br />

“If our customers and employees are better off, our shareholders will also benefit. This merger is timed to provide us with the platform to help lead the economic recovery that is sure to come,” Mr. Consing added.

Overnight, communities organized and created Facebook groups or Viber group chats for their respective neighborhoods where they could freely advertise home-baked bread and desserts, homecooked meals, fresh produce, seafood, and meats. They purposely kept the trade within the community to limit the entry of outsiders and simplify delivery and pick-up logistics.<br />

Santiago noted that prior to the pandemic, more Filipinos preferred “kaliwaan” or cash-on-delivery(COD) payments when ordering online. The hyperlocal market saw a shift to mobile and online transfers as the preferred mode of payment.<br />

The temporary waiver of InstaPay fees for transfers to other banks, coupled with people’s wariness about touching cash that may have been handled by strangers, made digital banking a great enabler for hyperlocal trade,</i>” said Santiago.<br />

Hyperlocal entrepreneurs particularly liked being able to easily track incoming payments on their phones or computers.<br />

Santiago said that as mobility guidelines have become more relaxed, some of these hyperlocal entrepreneurs may want to expand their market beyond their immediate communities, which could give rise to the need for a modified mode of payment.<br />

The Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) encourages its clients to be more cyber-secure, and use the bank’s security features. With the enhanced community quarantine to contain the spread of COVID-19, BPI Chief Digital Officer Noel Santiago said more people now have adopted to digital ways of doing things. Digital banking helped people cope with the difficult situation, and are thus equipped to manage their finances.<br />

BPI's Mobile Key is a secure alternative to the One-Time PIN (OTP). With the Mobile Key, you can authenticate transactions with biometrics. The Mobile Key allows you to do your bills payments, fund transfers to third parties, and InstaPay transfers safely and conveniently.<br />
<br />
<b><u>Enable biometric login</u></b><br />
Make things private and personal when accessing your online banking account. Do this by using biometrics via the BPI Mobile app. With BPI’s “Set Fingerprint/Face ID Login” feature, you can have your mobile device scan your fingerprint (i.e., your thumb), or use the camera for facial recognition for secure access to your accounts.<br />
<br />
<b><u>Link a device to your account</u></b><br />
One online account can be linked to one mobile device, providing you additional security. Plus transaction notifications are sent to this linked mobile device. Mobile Key will also work only on your linked device. When using the BPI Mobile app, link your trusted mobile phone, a device that only you should be using, to your account.<br />
<br />
<b><u>Know how to use the One-Time PIN (OTP)</u></b><br />
For those not using mobile banking and have not activated Mobile Key, we’ve made your online banking experience safe through the One-Time PIN (OTP) sent via SMS. The OTP you receive is unique to a single transaction. Read the text message and you will find the transaction details, including the amount that you are about to transfer or pay. Once you enter the OTP, that means you have given your approval to process and complete the transaction. So read the message carefully and never share your OTP to anyone.<br />
<br />
<b><u>Set up your notifications and alerts</u></b><br />
Turn on your email log-in notification. You can now keep track of your log-in activities. You will receive an email for every successful log-in to your account.  Hence, we encourage you to periodically review your e-mail messages.<br />
<br />
We have also provided  the “last log in” date and time in the main menu of both Online and Mobile App page. This will allow you to know if somebody else has logged in your account. As a security habit, check the “last log in” every time you log in to BPI Online or BPI Mobile app.<br />
<br />
Additional protection provided for you in the BPI Online accounts is the transaction confirmation email. Get notified via email for every successful transaction made using your account.<br />
<br />
Finally, you may also activate BPI’s ATM Withdrawal Alerts. Receive email or SMS notifications whenever a certain amount is withdrawn from your account.<br />
<br />
<b><u>Be more secure with Card Control Settings</u></b><br />
Manage your card usage and security via the Card Control Settings. By setting your maximum ATM withdrawal amounts, debit purchase limits, or allowing international access or not, you can control your threshold on security risk exposure. Through the card control feature, you can also temporarily block or unblock your card so no one can use your card but you.<br />

Mr. Santiago said that while BPI enables clients to be cybersafe through these digital security features, clients have to remain vigilant.<br />

Launched in 2011, the museum and library showcase a rich collection of old coins and bills, the first official currency of the Philippines more than a century ago. In a way, it is a celebration of Filipino culture set on the grounds of the Queen City of the South. Cebu plays a notable role in BPI's history as it became home to the bank’s third branch in 1924 after Iloilo and Zamboanga.<br />
<br />
Since it opened, this museum and library have been part of BPI’s efforts to promote financial education and inclusion for every Filipino. They also highlight BPI’s 167-year history as the first bank in the Philippines and in Southeast Asia.<br />

1.      On display at the museum are gold coins that started circulation in 1861, 10 years after the establishment of El Banco Español Filipino de Isabel II, which we know today as BPI.<br />

2.      The museum also carries the first ever Philippine banknotes issued by BPI on May 1, 1852. These were the first banknotes in the country and even in Southeast Asia. At that time, they could be redeemed for gold or silver Mexican coins.<br />

3.      There is a collection of coins of varying denominations from the last 50 years of Spanish rule: 10 cents, 20 cents, 25 cents, 50 cents, 5 pesos.<br />
<br />
4.      There are coins issued during the reign of King Ferdinand VII counter-stamped with “Y II” for Isabel II, his daughter and the only female monarch of Spain in modern times.<br />
<br />
5.      The museum also has a leather-bound bank journal from 1855. The escribientes or writing clerks who wrote on this journal had to be trained to do the task using the accepted script.<br />
<br />
6.      There are banknotes from 1904 in six denominations and with the text in Spanish: cinco (5), diez (10), veinte (20), cincuenta (50), cien (100), dos cientos (200).<br />
<br />
7.      Government-issued coins from 1903 to 1908 that were designed by Melecio Figueroa. They were the signature coins of the American colonial period.<br />

8.      You’ll find the book that details the bank’s purchase of the corner lot where the BPI building now stands along Magallanes and P. Burgos streets. The Bank bought the lot from the Augustinian friars for only P65,610.<br />

9.      The library itself is an architectural landmark, a neo-classical building designed by noted architect Juan Arellano. The high ceilings and tall glass windows serve as a repository for shelves of reference books on economics, finance, management, and trade, including a section especially dedicated to Cebu culture and a designated reading area for children.<br />
<br />
10.   The BPI library’s concept and design were patterned after the Filipinas Heritage Library, with access to the University of San Carlos' vast library system. It has become a valuable, unparalleled resource for Cebu's current and future business leaders, and it serves as a venue for regular workshops for topics related to business and finance.<br />
